T&A Systems can eliminate clocking fraud, both where employees write down an incorrect time (when using manual time sheets), or record someone else as present when they are not (sometimes called “buddy punching”, originally an American term). This can happen both with manual time sheets and when using a card-in-the-slot clocking machine. It is virtually eliminated by using un-reproducible proximity cards, and can be totally eliminated by using a biometric reader that recognises the finger, hand, face or iris of each person, making it a very useful application if you operate multiple sites without senior staff at every site (or where the senior site staff may even be involved in the fraud).
Unapproved and fraudulent overtime can similarly be reduced, which also improves the correctness of payroll calculations. By automatically removing time on site which is not authorised overtime (e.g. arriving before they should start, and perhaps spending time in the canteen or reading a newspaper) from the payroll calculations, time and money is saved once more.
Furthermore, if the system keeps an audit trail of approvals and changes, including who made the change and when, then arguments over whether overtime was approved, or if the reason for absence was entered correctly and in advance of the payroll run, can be quickly resolved.
